One thing many people are unaware of is that medical practices of all kinds must keep their medical and billing records for seven to ten years (depending on the type of record).  While this is important for many reasons, the most beneficial to you is that your medical records will not disappear any time soon.  That means we can ensure you a easy transfer of pertinent records to any new office you choose to go to.  Also Kentucky requires providers to maintain a complete electronic record so no large or messy folders of various papers to keep.
Many patients assume they need to get a copy of their medical records themselves, but that would be false.  Most providers like to exchange records directly from one practice to another ensuring the accuracy and validity of the records.
Under most circumstances, a new provider will ask you to sign a Request of Information or Medical Records Request which gives them your permission to ask us for the parts of your file they need to continue your care.  That request is normally faxed or emailed to us to forward the items.
